What happens to touristic places at the end of holidays? What the ice-cream man, the lifeguard, the carny do in the rest of the year? It’s easy to imagine them melancholic and motionless in their empty shop, desert windy beach or ghost luna park.
The photo series Au pays des merveilles – Wonderland by Ariene De Palacio brings me back to these thoughts, reminding the atmospheres of Jacques Tati’s Monsieur Hulot’s Holidays, but also Federico Fellini.
This is about nothingness, the none, that is the egyptian “Nun”, or the primeval waters waiting for the “Lotus Flower” (in this case, holidays) to break the “Egg of Creation”, giving birth to Life.
In this sense the world’s a stage. This is what we’re part of.
